Arrowhead VMA was founded to provide CE opportunities for the Northland veterinary community and has done so continuously. Dr. Tom Bloom was exceptional in keeping the organization alive and strong by securing excellent speakers during his involvement with the organization until his untimely death. The Tom Bloom Scholarship was developed to recognize his contribution to the organization.
The Arrowhead VMA has been very fortunate to have help over the years from corporate sponsors that have enabled the organization to procure nationally recognized speakers with cutting edge lectures. We are also very fortunate that through their financial assistance we have been able to collaborate with the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Foundation to create the Dr. Thomas Bloom Scholarship of $1,500 per year that is fully funded for a 10 year span. Having completed this scholarship commitment, the organization then created a separate Arrowhead VMA Scholarship of $3,000 per year with a 10 year funding commitment which is over 50% completed ($18,500 has been funded of the $30,000 total).
The goal of the Arrowhead VMA, which was incorporated as a non-profit organization, is to provide continuing education opportunities for veterinarians and veterinary support staff in the Northland. Our board of directors has worked as non-paid volunteers to accomplish this goal. We are proud to have developed a strong organization that has a loyal following of attendees that come to Duluth twice each year to enjoy a quality continuing education experience, and through a collaborative effort help support deserving veterinary students through the two scholarships created by the organization.
